Are you looking for a fun craft to do with your kids?

Hawaii gets a lot of Japanese tourists so you’ll definitely see Japanese influences in the gift shops around Waikiki.

Hello Kitty is one of the most popular Japanese characters in the world. She’s been around since 1974 and has become an international icon.

Today, I thought I’d share a simple Hello Kitty paper craft that you can make with your kids using materials that are probably already at home.

You don’t need much to make this cute Hello Kitty paper craft, but if you want the best results possible, here are some things that will help.

First off, use a toilet paper roll as the base for your project because it gives the whole thing more stability. It’s pretty essential.

Next up is crafting paper or cardstock in pink and white colors so that when you cut out all the pieces, they look nice and clean on top of each other.

Lastly, get some glue sticks so that everything stays together well while drying overnight after assembling everything together.

If you have these materials at home already then let’s get started!

Hello Kitty Craft Supplies Needed

How to Make This Hello Kitty Toilet Paper Roll Craft

Step 1:

Download and print out the PDF templates for the tissue paper roll Hello Kitty. You can do that HERE and HERE.

You really only need one of them. The first one is blank so you can make them whatever colors you like. The second one has the color already on them, so it’s perfect for people who don’t have craft paper at home.

Cut out the parts for the Hello Kitty craft carefully with scissors.

Step 2:

Glue the Hello Kitty’s eyes and nose with the head. She has sort of wide-set eyes so you’ll want to make sure that they are just inside her ears.

Step 3:

Then, glue the whiskers on her face. The best way to do this is to glue just half of the black strip of paper on her face and let the other half dangle.

Now that her face is all set, it’s time to move on to her body.

Step 4:

Glue the dress on the white rectangular craft paper. This will be her body and her clothing.

Make sure to glue down the dress straps carefully so they don’t peel up later. You can also make her dress any color that you like or use printed origami paper or wrapping paper if you want to get super fancy.

Step 5:

Wrap and glue the white rectangular craft paper around a toilet paper roll. Be sure to press and hold to make sure the paper stays glued to the toilet paper roll.

If you don’t have an empty toilet paper roll, you can always cut an empty paper towel roll instead. Or, use an empty wrapping paper roll, as long as it’s sort of skinny.

Step 6:

Glue Hello Kitty’s head on top of the tissue paper roll. You’ll just be gluing the middle part of her head so that it stays nice and flat.

Doesn’t she look adorable?

Step 7:

To add some finishing touches glue the hair bow on Hello Kitty’s head.

Voila! Your Hello Kitty paper craft is now complete! Isn’t this the cutest thing ever?

Hello Kitty Craft Variations

Now that you know how to make this easy Hello Kitty craft, you can get even more creative. To make her look like the Hawaiian version, simply use tan paper for her face and body and replace her bow with a flower. You can even use floral paper for her outfit.

To dress her in a Japanese kimono, you’ll want to add sleeves to the outfit and use origami paper.
